Harare Family Seeks DNA Test After Conflicting Reports on Infant’s Death
HARARE – A 34-year-old woman’s death at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals has left her husband demanding clarity after hospital staff gave conflicting accounts about their unborn child.
Lizzy Katsiga died during a medical procedure while pregnant, leaving behind her husband Tawanda Sengu and three children.
According to family accounts reported by HMetro, staff initially told Sengu that both his wife and unborn baby had died. The family made funeral arrangements and buried Katsiga without receiving the infant’s remains or an explanation for its whereabouts.
The situation escalated during the burial when Sengu received a call from a doctor instructing him to collect the baby’s body from the hospital. On arrival, staff presented him with the body of a toddler instead of a newborn. Sengu rejected the remains, stating they did not belong to his family.
Sengu is now requesting a DNA test to verify the identity of the infant before accepting any body. Police have confirmed an investigation is underway to establish what transpired at the hospital.
Parirenyatwa Hospital had not issued an official statement at the time of reporting.
